Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidhyalaya was founded in 1991 by the Social activist Nanaji Deshmukh. It is India's first rural university. It is named after the Mahatma Gandhi. The campus of the University is situated near Sphatikshila at Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh. The University has five Faculties, 16 Departments, and one inter-Faculty Centre. Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidhyalaya is recognized by the UGC (University Grants Commission) and also has been accredited Grade "A" by the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). The mission of the University is to provide higher education to people living in rural areas of Madhya Pradesh State.
