Karanataka University was established through the Karnatak University Act 1949 on 1st March 1950. Dharwad. Gadag, Haveri and Uttar Kannada districts are covered by jurisdiction of the University. Karanataka University Duration for PhD
PhD program in the university has minimum 3 years and Max 05 years from the date of registration. The candidate have to complete his research in the given period of time. If he fails to do it his registration will be canceled.
Karanataka University Eligibility for PhD
For admission in PhD in Karanataka University Candidate should have Post Graduation degree with at least 55% marks or he should have a professional degree declared equivalent to the Post Graduation degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate from a recognized university of Indian region. In some subjects, Candidate should have M.Phil degree from a recognized university of Indian region. Candidate belonging to SC/ST/OBC will get a relaxation of 5% of marks or an equivalent relaxation of grade. Candidate who have cleared National Eligibility Test for Lectureship (NET) conducted by University Grants Commission will not have to participate in the Entrance test conducted by the Karanataka University.

Karanataka University Admission Procedure
Candidate should have to submit eight copies of his/her Ph.D. proposal with the application form along with the registration fee as may be prescribed from time to time. Candidate shall not be allowed to register for any other degree course. Candidate should have to tell his research proposal before get the admission. After the Research and Recognition Committee approves the topic admission will be confirmed. Candidates shall have to take Ph. D. Registration Admission Test†who have not qualified NET/SET/JRF examination. Candidate should have to submit a tentative research proposal of about 1500 words. Candidates are exempted from PAT conducted by Karanataka State Law University who have qualified NET/SET/JRF examination are eligible at the personal interview.
